Reilly’s doing great in school and the kids seem to be very accepting, friendly, and excited when he’s around. He’s still not able to complete a full day of school yet, but he’s getting there and so far his back looks great. He’s doing fantastic at driving his power chair. You can see his face light up as he’s able to do more by himself and each day he practices he gets a little bit better. Just last week Kyle let him control the chair all the way from the van to his spot in class. This was really impressive to all of us as he navigated through some tight spaces and around other desks to get to his seat.
With getting up in his chair and going to school, he’s been expressing interests in going out and doing things again. It’s been so long for all of us, but soon we’ll be taking him on little outings to the zoo, museums, parks, and more. His back up manual wheelchair chair has finally come in and we will be getting him fitted to it as soon as our schedules allow. Reilly’s forever home is coming along nicely. Electrical, data wire, plumbing, and fire sprinklers are just about wrapped up. Windows were delivered and doors should be here any day. Cabinets are in production for the kitchen and his bedroom. We’ve had a few challenges with items not available or long lead times, but I think for the most part we’ve worked through these issues. Reilly continues to express his excitement about the new place and has even given his design opinions telling us that some of our design ideas are “LAME”.
